Leif's Bio

Thanks for wandering onto my section of the Frank website!

First of all, my name really is Leif Erickson. It’s not an on-air gag or anything. I’ve had to show people my license just to prove this. Yes, I was named for the Viking explorer that came over here long before that Columbus guy. Oh, and by the way, you know those trinket keychains with names you find in gift shops? Well, they never have my name on them. This has been a thorn in my side for a long time.

I grew up in the shadows of Wachusett Mountain in Massachusetts, and attended Boston University to get a journalism degree. Still paying for that journalism degree, by the way. Where’s my bailout? Anyway, at BU I started my radio career at tiny WTBU (same station where Howard Stern started.) After graduating I moved to Lebanon, New Hampshire, where I reported ski conditions for Snocountry Mountain Reports for 6 years, and rocked the Connecticut River Valley at WHDQ-FM (Q106) for five years.

I arrived at Frank in February 2005 (in the middle of an awful snowstorm, no less) and I’ve been holding down the 2-7pm slot ever since. When I started at Frank I had no gray hairs, I now have at least twelve. Honestly, there aren’t many people who get to play the tunes they love for a living, so each day I crack the microphone I’m thankful to have dedicated listeners like you! (Except of course that drunk that used to call daily asking why I wouldn’t play his John Denver request. Thanks for not calling anymore.)

Living in Maine has been a blast. The mountains and the ocean are all less than an hour from my doorstep and there’s definitely something for everyone to do any time of year. Having so many local breweries is a plus, too. I always count down the days to Sebago Hefeweizen season!

I am a bit of a music nut. (You may have already figured this out by listening to my show.) The Frank FM artists I’m most passionate about are Yes, Todd Rundgren, Steely Dan, the Moody Blues, The Who, The Beatles, Grand Funk Railroad, R.E.M., Genesis, Boston and Fleetwood Mac.

Each weekday from 2-7 listen for your favorite classics, plus the occasional double-play, live track, and even a lost classic here and there. (Except John Denver, of course.)

A little after 3:00 it’s Connect the Classics, where I play you three songs and you tell me what they all have in common (you could win a prize!)

Take Frank home with the Commercial Free Ride Home starting just before 5, and at 6 we spend the entire hour remembering a year where you graduated in the 6 O’Clock Class Reunion. (We’ll try and forget about your awful hair in your senior pic.)

Plus, all afternoon I’ll keep you updated on the latest weather thanks to our prognosticating pals at WCSH News Center 6.

Anytime you want to hear something, give me a call at 1-888-86-FRANK, or email me at leif@1075frank.com.

Thanks for checking the website out, hope to see you out and about at our next live broadcast (or maybe next winter on the Spruce Peak Triple at Sunday River.)

Oh, and if you couldn’t tell already, I’m a fan of parenthetical notes (my admitted bad habit.)
